Hello from San Antonio where I am on book tour, reading at the beautiful Guadalupe Cultural Center!
What a wonderful night!
The reading was part of the Texas Author Reading Series. It was a dual reading where we got the pleasure of listening to Anel Flores reading as well.
There was so many people there and the signing was so much fun but, oh boy, that was a lot of energy exuded.
And here we come to another thing they don’t tell you about when you publish —- the draining of energy.
Now, this isn’t a complaint. I love what I do and I know that I am so lucky. However, this isn’t a something that only I am experiencing. Talking to other writer friends, the exhaustion from a book event is so very real. This is different from reading at an open mic or even when you are a feature at a reading. In addition to the reading and preparation for it, you also have the signing at the end. Talking, signing, smiling, engaging. By the end of the night, you are spent.
I talk about it in the video below that I recorded the next day in my hotel room.
For any writers out there that have been on book tour, if you have any suggestion on how to conserve energy, I am so happy to hear it.
Despite all that, it was a great time! The bookstore sold out of books and everyone went home happy!
Until next time!
