This is the number before the semester-ly chaos beings.
Hello everyone,
You may have noticed that there is not a newsletter this week. There is a reason for that.
The number 74.
Specifically, 74 freshmen composition papers that need to be graded before the next group of papers flood my desk next Tuesday.
I had a total of 151 papers to grade. So I’m about 50 percent there.
If you are grasping your pearls at this number, please don’t worry. This happens every semester. There is a point where the holiday or the ending (Spring is summer time blues) is nigh, there’s more papers than time and all you want to do is do anything else other than write the phrases “comma here” or “paragraphs begin with an indentation” over and over again.
If you note a bit of frustration in my tone, it is there it is only because I have yet to figure out how to grade papers at lightening speed. But I know my students appreciate my comments on their work.
And, by some miracle, everything gets graded. Grades are turned in on time. All is well.
So, no new newsletter this week as I’m working on 74 papers before a batch of another 50 (at least) come for me next Tuesday. And I am DETERMINED to enjoy my day. I have advanced tickets to WICKED tonight. I will be there. Only flying monkeys can keep me from it. Call it the carrot dangling at the end of 74 sticks.
